Please check the programme page for full directions to these sites and weekend programme. Pleshey Village Hall... This is a site ideal for just relaxing and 'chilling out'. The village is the home of Pleshey Castle, one of the biggest motte and bailey castle in England, and can be visited by appointment. Chelmsford, the county town of Essex is within easy reach by car, as is the Flitch town of Great Dunmow. Flitch Trials, actually started in Little Dunmow around 1120, held every four years, and married couples, who can prove they have not quarrelled for a year are given a side of bacon a "flitch". Bulphan Hall Farm... Bulphan Hall Farm is a level well sheltered site, with easy access. There is a small village store close by, this site is well situated for a visit to a large camping store, Camping and General, on Canvey Island. Basildon, Brentwood, Southend and the cockle sheds at Leigh on Sea are all within easy reach. Southend has the normal seaside amusements and is the home of the famous Southend pier. Coalhouse Fort at East Tilbury is a short drive away, and Langdon Plotland Walk can also be visited from this site. For fishing, China Lake is a short drive away, a day ticket water stocked with Carp, Bream, Roach and Catfish. The Secret Nuclear Bunker at Kelvdon Hatch is also within easy reach by car. There are also a number of footpaths close to this site. Brookfields... Brookfields site is situated just off of the A414 in the village of High Ongar, again with easy access. Both local Pubs and Restaurants are within walking distance. The town of Chipping Ongar is close by and can be reached on foot via a footpath from the site entrance. The Log Church at Greenstead is also close by, as is the Secret Nuclear Bunker at Kelvdon Hatch and North Weald Market. The Greenstead Church can be reached from this site by footpath, and is about a three mile round trip. Hallowtrees Scout Camp... Hallowtrees is situated within easy reach of Ipswich and is just off of the A14 overlooking the Orwell River, the site is again quiet and has easy access. There are panoramic veiws over the Orwell Estuary, there is a footpath from the site down to the busy Estuary. Constable Country, Jimmy's Farm (of TV fame), and the RSPB bird sanctury 'Stour Estuary' are all within easy driving distance. The East coast towns of Felixstowe and Harwich are also easly accessible. Hook Farm... Another level, sheltered and well kept site. Another site close to the town of Maldon which can be reached by footpath. Maylandsea on the Mundon Creek is also close by, as is Bradwell on Sea, where you can visit St Peters Chapel, built from the remains of the Othona Roman Fort. This is also the home of the Othona religious retreat. Sunnybrook Farm... The site at Sunnybrook Farm is situated in the village of Felstead on the B1417, Felstead is well known for it's public school. This is a large well kept site with a fishing lake close by. There is a disused railway line close to the site which can be walked and two Vineyards within easy reach by car. Little Clacton... Little Clacton is a large well kept site approximately 3 miles from Clacton. There is a bus stop close by. Frinton on Sea, Walton on the Naze and smaller seaside vilages are a short drive away. This is a ideal family location. There are walks from the site, but at the coast there is a promenade which goes from Jaywick to Walton on the Naze. All of the larger beaches in this area are sandy, safe and most are well patrolled in the holiday season. Both Clacton and Walton on the Naze have amusement arcades and Piers. Homestead Caravan Centre is also close by. A walk around the 'Naze' at Walton on the Naze, is highly recommended. Clare Priory... This site is situated in the grounds of Clare Priory. Clare Priory is one of the oldest religious houses in England; situated in the shadows of Clare Castle on the banks of the River Stour, Suffolk. Established in 1248 at the invitation of Richard de Clare it was the first house of the Austin or Augustinian Friars in England. Following its suppression in 1538, the house passed through many hands and uses until the Augustinia Friars purchased the house in 1953 and returned to their origins in England. Hare & Hounds... This is a small site in the grounds of the Hare & Hound Public House, where meals are served. Colchester and Mersea Island are both within easy reach. The visitor Centre and wildlife reserve at Abberton Reservoir are close by and can be reached by footpath. New Park Cottage... This is the location of E.C.S Strawberry meet. Again a new venue for E.C.S, this time in the town of Tiptree. The town of Tiptree has areas of flat, undulating and pretty agricultural scenery, that suited English watercolourists. Narrow lanes wind through meadows past weather-boarded mills and unfenced fields, while flinty church towers can be seen from tree-lined hilltops. There are impressive historic towns such as Colchester to visit and charming villages of old houses such as Thaxted and Dedham. The Stag... Another Large well kept site, this time behind the Stag Public House in the village of Little Easton. The Stag is renowned for it's good food and friendly atmosphere. Little Easton Manor is a short walk away with the church, which is well worth a visit, at it's entrance. The town of Great Dunmow is close by as is the gardens at Easton Lodge. There are a number of footpaths around the site. Home Farm... Home Farm is another well kept site, it's main feature being it's two fishing lakes. It is the home of E.C.S fishing, stitching and bitching meet. The market town of Saffron Walden is close by, and both Linton Zoo and the Imperial War Museum at Duxford are within easy reach by car. Ferry Boat Inn... This site is in the village of North Fambridge next to the Ferry Boat Inn Public House, where good food is served. The site is within 2 minutes walk of the River Crouch. North Fambridge is surrounded by farmland and is adjacent to the Essex Wildlife Trust site of Blue House Farm. The towns of South Woodham Ferrers and Burnham on Crouch are close by. Loves Farm... Loves Farm is located down a long private drive well away from the main road. This is a well maintained site with farmland views all around. Pheasant Oak... Pheasant Oak, Little Totham is a large, well sheltered site, opposite the Swan Public House well known for its good selection of real ales. Maldon and Tiptree are within easy reach and there are some good walks from the site. Bassetts Farm... This is another quiet site with easy access and is situated just outside the village of Little Baddow. Little Baddow is an attractive rural Essex village which lies between Danbury to the south and Hatfield Peverel to the north. The village is a haven for walkers and is well-known for its bluebell woods. Its northern boundary is the Chelmer and Blackwater Canal, which can be reached by footpath from the site. The Chelmer and Blackwater Canal is an area recognised for its natural beauty with boating, fishing, walking and other leisure facilities. This is another E.C.S venue ideal for just 'chilling out'. Hidden Waters... Hidden Waters is in the village of Tollesbury which is situated at the mouth of the River Blackwater, 9 miles from Maldon and 12 miles south of Colchester, Britain's oldest recorded town. The site is within 2 minutes walk of the Woodrolfe Creek which is a haven for boats. The village sits on a small peninsula, to the north is the RSPB reserve at Old Hall marshes, which can be reached on foot by walking the sea wall. There is also a walk around Tollsbury Wick Mashes, with extensive views over the River Blackwater. The location makes the village popular with bird watchers, walkers and of course sailors.
